Kinder to Prep Transition

A smooth transition from kindergarten to primary school lays the foundation for positive learning experiences.

To ensure a smooth transition to school, Huntingdale provides a transition program for all students enrolled to begin Prep in the following year. During term 3 and 4 of their kinder year, students come along to school one afternoon a fortnight to participate in a range of activities to become familiar with teachers, classrooms and to make new friends. The activities include listening to stories and doing fun literacy activities, maths activities, an introduction to Japanese language and culture, Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), art, music and dance activities in a fun, get-to-know-you atmosphere.

Transition program details will be sent to all families enrolled.

We welcome prospective parents to bring their children along to Huntingdale to have a tour of the school and to speak with teachers and the principal about how Huntingdale can provide for your child's needs. Parents are also invited to a Prep Information Evening at the end of the year which provides extra tips on how to prepare children for school. This also provides an opportunity for parents to meet other parents in the Huntingdale community.

When children begin Prep they are assigned a Year 6 buddy. This is a 'special friend' to take care of the students in their first days of school.
